Kozono-san was newly appointed as an Executive Officer of Polyplastics in April. He had worked at Daicel for 29 years and has been assigned to Polyplastics from 2021. There are probably many employees who have come into contact with him in the work as he involved in introduction of “Production Innovations by the Daicel Way” into Fuji Plant. But many of you may not know what Kozono-san is like.

4月から執行役員に就任された小園さん。2021年よりダイセルからポリプラに出向で来られ、ダイセル式生産革新を富士工場再構築PJに取り入れるための指揮をしていただいていましたので、既に業務では関わった方もいらっしゃるかと思います。しかし、小園さんがどのような方なのか、まだご存知ない方も多いのではないでしょうか？
そこで今回、小園さんにじっくりインタビューさせていただきました！そこから見えた３つのキーワードをご紹介します！
1: Speaking of Kozono-san, “Production Innovation”!
Kozono-san joined Daicel in 1991 and was assigned to the manufacturing engineering center in Aboshi, Himeji prefecture. In 1998, he became a member of the Production Innovation Project which is called “R21 Project” to create a better workplace where employees can work safely and in healthy conditions.
“At that time, we called the production innovation “Nandemo Innovation (innovation of everything)”. This means that by working with the mindset of “let’s change everything without deciding the scope of possibilities,” the company as a whole will move in a good direction.”
He feels that being involved in various production innovation projects with this mindset has become his core value.
He also says he could make use of this experience when he introduced “Production Innovations by the Daicel Way” into Fuji Plant.

小園さんは1991年にダイセルに入社され、網干の生産技術センターで勤務されたのち、1998年にR21プロジェクトとよばれるダイセル初の生産革新プロジェクトのメンバーとなって、より良い職場づくりを目指した生産革新を行いました。
「当時、私たちは生産革新のことを『なんでも革新』と言っていました。これは『可能性の範囲を決めずに、なんでも変えてみよう』という心持ちで業務に取り組むことで、会社全体が良い方向へ進んでいくという意味合いです。」
このような考え方でさまざまな生産革新プロジェクトに携わったことが、今のご自分を作っていると感じているそうです。
2021年からポリプラでダイセル式生産革新の富士工場再構築PJへの導入を担当する中でも、この経験が大いに生かされたと言います。

I think the “Customization culture” of Polyplastics is excellent. As the “Polyplastics-Way” suggests, Polyplastics‘ foundation is based on its thorough commitment to manufacturing by standing closest to the customers. On the other hand, Daicel has the contrary “Standardization culture” which aims to improve work efficiency through the production innovations. This is the big difference between two companies that I felt.
We’d like to make great progress as the synergy with Daicel by taking advantage of good points each other.＜PICK UP＞ポリプラをダイセルを経験して感じる文化の違いは？
ポリプラは“Polyplastics-way”という言葉があるように、徹底してお客様に寄り添ったものづくりに取り組んできたことが今の礎になっていますよね。
ダイセルはその逆の「標準化」の文化で、生産革新などを通して効率化を目指してきた歴史がありますので、やはり文化の違いは感じました。お互いの良いところを活かして、ダイセルシナジーとしてより成長していけると良いですね。
2: Speaking of Kozono-san, “Positive Thinking”!
Aside from the production innovations project, Kozono-san has actually experienced various departments such as the production manager and the director of digital strategy office, etc.
He says all jobs were impressive for him because he has worked on his every job with his motto, “Let’s have fun when I do anything”. He says he is a positive person.
“It is important to always have a positive mindset, because it can change the way I perceive things for the better.
Even if I have any weak points, it also means I have some chances to grow up more. I have enjoyed my jobs with this positive thought.”
We’d like to be like him with positive thinking!
２：小園さんと言えば「ポジティブ思考で前向き」！
小園さんは、実は生産革新プロジェクト以外にも、生産部長やデジタル戦略室長など多様な部門を経験されていますが、これまでを振り返ってみると、どのお仕事もとても印象に残っているといいます。それは、どんなお仕事も、やるからには楽しく！ をモットーに仕事に取り組んできたためだそう。基本的にポジティブ思考なのだそうです。
「考え方次第で物事の捉え方はいい方に変えることができるので、何事も前向きな気持ちを持つことは大事ですよね。たとえ自分にダメなところがあったとしても、考え方を変えれば成長するポテンシャルがあるということ。こうした思考なので仕事も楽しく取り組めてきたのだと思います。」
普段ほとんど落ち込むこともないという小園さん。見習いたい思考です！
3: Speaking of Kozono-san, “Alcohol lover”!?
When we asked him “What is your favorite food?”, he answered, “This is not food・・・I like alcohol.” It is slightly surprising side!
His favorite is Japanese sake, but he basically drinks beer. He displays a collection of beer bottles including German, Taiwanese, and Japanese ones.
He also like a drinking party as he can have heart-to-heart talk with colleagues!
３：小園さんと言えば「実はお酒好き」！？
好きな食べ物は何ですか？という質問に、「食べ物ではないのですが・・・お酒が好きです。」と答えた小園さん。ちょっと意外な一面ですね！
一番好きなお酒は日本酒だそうですが、普段はビールをよく飲まれるとのこと。ご自宅には、外国のクラフトビールや国内の地ビールの瓶を飾っているそうです。
腹を割って本音で話せる機会なので、飲み会も好きなんだとか！
I often watch movies while drinking beer when I have a free time. By the way, my favorite movie is “Once Upon a Time in America”, which broadcasted about 40 years ago. It reminds me good memories that I watched this movie with my friends in high school, shared the thoughts with them, and walked around Osaka feeling like we had become a gangster.＜PICK UP＞お酒を飲みながら…
休日にはよく、家でビールを飲みながら映画を見ています。
ちなみに一番好きな映画は「ワンス・アポン・ア・タイム・イン・アメリカ」という40年くらい前のギャング映画です。高校時代の友人と観終わったあと感想を語り合い、ギャング気分で浪速の街を歩いたりもした、思い出深い作品です。
I could be an Executive Officer thanks to superiors who taught me many things, colleagues, and my family. I’d like to return the favor to everyone with a sense of gratitude.
There have been many challenges that I have taken on so far, and every success and failure I have ever experienced has made me who I am today.
So, I’d like all of you to try anything you want without fear of failure, and I will support it as much as I can.
