Classic Bread, Gambang

My mother introduced this bread when I was 4th grader, it’s one of the Indonesian classic bread styles called Roti Gambang as it looks like a part of Gambang the Indonesian traditional musical instrument. The bread texture is very soft and moist in the center, the sweet hint is different because it used palm sugar that caused the color brown with a light smell of cinnamon. This combination makes me want the bread more and cannot stop eating it while I watch movie/dramas at home.

My Favorite Snack

I would like to introduce my favorite snack “Mun Break Tak”. “Mun = Potato, Break Tak = Unstoppable” The fried sweet potato slice with sugar. It is very tasty, crispy and light sweet so when you eat it you would not feel any guilty. There are many kinds of this “Break Tak Snack” in Thailand such as potatoes, bananas and vegetables.

My Favorite Snack Food

I like chocolate, and dark chocolate is my favorite. Black cocoa is more abundant and healthier than regular chocolate. In addition, dark chocolate can also bring people a sense of pleasure, effectively relieve pressure. It is very great and tastes bitter and slightly sour. Finally, the bitter chocolate in my mouth will last for a while, which is full of happiness for chocolate lovers.

Snacks of Mysterious Power

I would like to introduce a snack that everyone loved in their childhood in Taiwan. It is called “kuaikuai”. It is a cookie made from corn. It tastes very crispy. There are three flavors: coconut butter, five spices, and chocolate. it also represents different colors: green, yellow, red.
Why do i say that this snack has mysterious power? Because “kuaikuai” means “Good Luck” in Chinese. In Taiwan, when we hope that the machine at work can run smoothly, we will put a pack of kuaikuai next to it as a lucky charm. Be sure to put green one, because the light signal is usually green when the machine is running smoothly, and it has been used in all walks of life.
Although this has not been scientifically proven, this interesting unwritten rule has formed the so-called “kuaikuai culture”.

Combinación Peeerfecta! (Peeerfect combination)

This is one of my favorite snacks, “Quesabritas” Those are basically cheese balls, if you are familiar with Japanese snack, it tastes like “Karl” or “Umaibo cheese flavor”. In Mexico, it´s common to add spicy salsa, lime juice or even gummy. So, I usually add spicy salsa “Valentina” and “Jugo Maggi” (Maggi is used for seasoning meat, or cooking. Tastes like soy sauce) and this is a perfect match!!

Another interesting topic related Mexican Snack, is that Heath Ministry started to take more control of health problem we have in the country such as obesity, high blood pressure etc. There is a regulation for industries to put identify seal for each concept: 1 Excess of calories, 2 Excess of sugar, 3. Excess of saturate fat, 4. Excess of trans fat, 5. Excess of sodium in package of the product. This should be helpful for consumers to select product appropriately.

As you can observe in photo, Quesabrita has two seals for calorie and sodium, and Valentina/Maggi each one has one for sodium. It´s definitely NOT a perfect choice for my health!!!!

My all time favorite snack

When it comes to snacks, there is one delectable treat that has captured my heart and taste buds—mixed nuts. This seemingly simple combination of almonds, cashews, walnuts, and pistachios has become a cherished part of my life.
…. ….. Huuuum, No! I just love them!
I tried to make my column a very fancy one. But it’s not my style. So let me back to my own style, and I will give you the reason why.
They can be roasted, salted, or even coated in honey or spices, and you can also use some of them to give a different touch to your daily cooking.
And I like that those are perfect on-the-go snacks I can Ziploc anywhere.
And those mixed nuts taught me several feelings too. The more I like them, the more I want to share some with others, but at the same time, watching the less left for me, I start feeling stingy. They taught me to be generous to others, the feeling of happiness and the opposite, how it was like being ambivalent, the satisfaction of refiling my nuts jar and Ziploc, etc.
What are yours? Any other nuts you wanna recommend to me? Love to hear and try something I’ve not had yet!
