Monument to the Battle of the Nations

My hometown Leipzig is a historical city in Germany. It is famous for the trade fairs and the cultural scene. One of the largest and most important monuments in Europe is located here. It is about the Monument to the Battle of the Nations. It was built to commemorate the biggest battle that took place in Europe until the World Wars.

In October 16 – 19, 1813, the decisive battle of the nations took place near Leipzig. It sealed the defeat of France and Napoleon Bonaparte. Because of this defeat, he was exiled to Elba. The battle involved 500,000 soldiers from France, Germany, Prussia, Austria, Russia and Sweden. Part of the Germans fought on the French side, the Prussian part of the Germans fought on the side of Russia and its allies Sweden and Austria. Although the coalition of the Eastern countries led by Prussia and Russia won the war, about 110,000 soldiers lost their lives in only 4 days.

As a monument to this terrible tragedy and as a sign of Europe’s regained freedom, construction began on the 50th anniversary in 1863. With a height of 91 meters, it is still the highest monument in Europe.
Today it is one of the most important landmarks of the city of Leipzig and is visited annually by thousands of tourists from all over the world. The many details of the building inspire as well as the museum or the viewing platform at 57m height that allows a view over Leipzig. Adjacent to the monument is a larger park and a square that is used for concerts.

Tallest building in desert oasis

I took this picture in the old town of Khiva, an oasis in the desert, when I was traveling in Uzbekistan. The tower is a symbol of the old town with about 50 meters height. You can climb up the spiral stairs inside it.

A Former House of Mr. Zhang Jian in Nantong

Mr. Zhang Jian is an early pioneer in the field of cotton textiles in China advocating Saving the Nation by Engaging in Industry. He established a series of cultural and educational undertakings in Nantong which makes Nantong be an important port in the lower reaches of Yangtze River and the economic, cultural and political center of Northern Jiangsu. Today I want to introduce his first residence in Nantong called Haonan Bieye which was built in 1914.

The theme of Haonan Bieye is a four-storeyed English-style building, facing south with a unique style and a majestic atmosphere. The ground floor is the basement and the middle hall on the second floor is conference hall. In the middle of the third floor there is a large living room and the two sides are the bedroom, study, piano room and dining room; the fourth floor is the insulation layer.

It is worth mentioning that in front of the gate, there are two wisteria flowers that planted by Mr. Zhang Jian personally. The east one is purple wisteria flower, which represents the meaningful purple energy coming from the east, and the west one is white color. It has been a hundred years and blooms in March and April every year attracting many tourists.

Tiger & Turtle – Magic Mountain

Tiger and Turtle is a walkable roller coaster artwork in the heart of the Ruhr near our Oberhausen Topas location. It was built on a former heap, the Magic Mountain, in the south of Duisburg. Anyone who climbs the steps to the looping will be rewarded with a magnificent view. When the weather is good, you can see along the Rhine river from Duisburg city center to Düsseldorf. From the sculpture you can see the hustle and bustle of the iron and steel works, the huge storage areas of the port area, but also the dense forest areas. In the evening the lights come on and it’s just a beautiful sight.

Queretaro Alley

Central Mexico is widely known for its beautiful colonial buildings and heritage. This picture frames a traditional alley at downtown Queretaro during a sunset. You will usually see Catholic Churches in almost every corner, they are a characteristic of these Colonial urban landscapes, in fact the pic is not only of one building but of a set of buildings that may be a bit common for the us who live here but they do not lose their majesty whatsoever.

Kaohsiung Music Center

The Kaohsiung Music Center (KMC) is the landmark along the love river in this city. The design team uses marine elements to outline the appearance of the building that joint implementation of the Spanish architecture team and the Taiwan team.

You can join the pop music concerts in the building or walk along outside to watch the sunset view in the windy afternoon. There was firework held in this area during the lunar new year this year, so many visitors came to visit here. This is a special place for all the citizens and visitors.

Taisekiji temple sanmon gate with Mt.Fuji illuminated by the first sunrise of the year 2022

After the end of the New Year’s devotion, I endured the cold for about two hours when the dripping water turned into icicles. The unique point of this gate is that there is no hengaku (the signboard which shows honorific mountain name prefixed to a temple’s name).
Since its establishment in 1290, it has been called “Taisekiji”, but some say that it is a tentative name of this temple.

Japanese “Rock” Power Spot from BC

“Kamikura-Jinja Shrine” is an ancient power spot located halfway up Mt. Gongenyama in Wakayama-pref., where the gods are said to have first descended to earth. It is at the top of a steep cliff on the Kumano-kodo Pilgrimage route (※). After climbing the 538 steep steps made of natural stones from the mountain foot, a huge and sacred rock so called “Gotobiki-iwa” jumps in your eyes, which is revered as the dwelling place of one of the shrine’s deities. The shrine has the best view of the Kumano-nada Sea, and is also the site of the “Oto Matsuri Festival” (solemn festival, numerous shrine parishioners light many torches and run down the steep slope at once), which is held on February 6 every year.
※ In 2004, “Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes (including the Kumano-kodo) in the Kii Mountain Range” were registered as World Heritage Sites.

Bezos’ balls!!

Three spheres suddenly appear while walking downtown Seattle.
Its identity is an urban oasis type office advocated by Amazon, which no one but knows now. The building called “The Spheres”, which has a unique exterior and was designed with the concept of coexistence of plants and people, is like a botanical garden, with tens of thousands of plants and workspaces like various conference rooms are scattered. Tourists can also visit the interior, so when you visit Seattle, please try to immerse yourself in the playful space.
