Our EMSR(Electrical Measurement System Control) engineer Thomas Postler-san suggested plan and implemented an automated peak shaving system to reduce the electric peak load of LCPG plant by automated action of the DCS (Digital control system). DCS is the process control system of the plant. This system is now in operation and doesn’t require operator’s actions.

There were many companies that handled such system development as a product, but he developed it by himself with a very little Capex amount. Therefore, the payback of the measure is just 0.3 years.

Thomas-san says: “Commercial solutions were expensive and complicated. Therefore, I decided to integrate it in our DCS system myself. It was not only cheaper but also more practical in operation and we keep full control.”EMSR（電気計測システム制御）のエンジニアであるトーマス・ポルスターさんが、今回プラントのプロセス制御システムであるDCSをうまく活用して、工場の電力ピーク時の負担を低減するため、 季節や時間で大きく変動する電力等の需要のピークに対し、最適な状態でコントロールするシステムを開発することに成功しました。このシステムは現在うまく作動しており、この作業に関してはオペレーターはいらなくなりました。

このようなシステム開発を商品として取り扱うサービス会社も多かったのですが、トーマスさんは低コストで独自にシステムを開発したことで、なんと投資費用は運用後たったの3ヵ月程で回収できてしまいます。

トーマスさんによれば、市販のシステムは値段も高いうえに結構複雑なものだったそうです。そのため、自分で電力の需要ピークに対してうまくコントロールする工場のDCSシステムを開発することを考えたようです。安価なだけでなく、運用もより実践的で、十分に管理をすることができているそうです。
