Employees from the Fuji Plant volunteered to participate in the Ashitaka Relay Run 2014 held in Shizuoka Ashitaka Park in Numazu City on March 21.

The tournament is a relay marathon run by teams of friends, family members, and company colleagues. One team member at a time runs a set distance and passes a baton to the next team member.

Fourteen employees from Polyplastics Fuji Plant and their family members, both men and women in the twenties to fifties age range, participated in the race. They were gathered together by going around the worksites and asking people if they would be interested in participating in the tournament. Teams were allowed to have 7 persons, so the 14 people formed two teams to enter in the race.

Two marathons were run in the tournament—a full marathon (42.195 km) and a half marathon (20 km). The Polyplastics teams ran the half marathon. Each member of the teams ran a 2 km course around the track and a few members ran two courses.

Some team members practiced by running to work, others ran in the company ground after work.
The two teams placed 6th and 8th out of 12 teams, but they all said that they came away from the race with a great sense of accomplishment. A very lively social gathering was held after the tournament.
