Chinaplas 2014, the largest international plastics and rubber exhibition in Asia, was held in Shanghai, China on April 23-26. Employees primarily from PSL and PTSL worked together to design and set up the Polyplastics booth and exhibits.

The Chinaplas exhibition is said to be second in size to K-Fair, the world’s largest international trade fair for plastics and rubber, and attracts more than 100,000 visitors each year. Chinaplas is held alternately in Shanghai and Guangzhou. This year’s exhibition was held in Shanghai. In recent years, Polyplastics is making every effort to gain recognition as a global corporation by publicizing the company’s products and presenting the corporate philosophy and basic business approach at trade fairs such as Germany’s K-Fair. Polyplastics has participated in Chinaplas on a continuous basis since 1995 . TOPAS® COC sales personnel from Japan and sales personnel from Germany, Switzerland, Mexico, Thailand, Singapore, and India came to support the PSL and PTSL members. In this article we give an account of this well-attended lively exhibition. (There are also reports on Chinaplas by PSL and PTSL employees in Topics.)

Again this year the company’s theme was “Global Reach, Local Touch.”
The theme was chosen to present our global network and locally based business activities.

The booth was designed with a main focus on the two faces facing each other and the messages that were run across the LED screen set up between them. This reflected the company’s approach of valuing communication with the customer, sharing ideas, and collaborating with customers to support their businesses.

In our position as a leading company, in addition to the exhibits introducing product applications and publicizing our technologies, we also placed importance on providing a place to talk with visitors and so a large space was set up for business talks. Drink service was also provided to create an atmosphere in which visitors could relax and take their time exchanging information with sales representatives. Visitors were especially attracted by the TOPAS® COC exhibit. Many interested visitors stopped to ask questions of the staff member in charge of explaining the exhibit. The exhibits of medical applications brought from Germany and plastic bottles and film developed in Japan were also particularly successful in attracting and interesting visitors.

On April 24, during the third day of the exhibition, President and CEO Noboru Goto visited Polyplastics’ booth to encourage the employees in their efforts. He talked with the members of the PSL and PTSL staff and the staffs from the overseas bases who explained to him the concept for this year’s booth. Masaaki Nakamura, the managing director of PSL and PTSL, had a video interview by official media representative covering Chinaplas. During the interview he talked about TOPAS® COC.

More than 3,000 companies exhibited at Chinaplas this year and the number of visitors rose above 130,000, which was 16,000 more than last year. Over the four days of the exhibition we received about 400 business cards from visitors to the company’s booth. It is expected that these contacts will lead to a number of great new business opportunities. We hope to exhibit again next year in Guangzhou in May. We will continue participate in trade fairs such as Chinaplas with the objective of raising company visibility not only in China but around the world.

Thank you to everyone who was involved in designing and operating this year’s booth.
