There are more than 50 people at PPC who will turn 50 years old this year! [PPC]
Saori Kiyota ,Editorial Staff
The special feature in this issue is about things related to the number 50, so the editorial staff looked up how many people at PPC are 50 years old. With the help of the Human Resources Department we found out the following facts.

28 people will turn 50 this year
26 people will turn 51 this year

So counting last year and this year, a total of more than 50 people turned or will turn 50. How many of the people you work with are 50?
The editorial staff wishes to express heartfelt congratulations to all of you who have walked life’s path for 50 years—the same amount of time Polyplastics has been in business.
Three other people at PPC told about a personal experience related to the number 50.

I'd like to catch a lot of black sea bream that are longer than 50 centimeters.

By Mitsuharu Kusagaya

I took up lure fishing of black sea bream last year. In the world of black sea bream fishing, they say a really big fish is one that’s over 50 centimeters. This year I want to find some new fishing spots and catch a lot of black sea bream that are longer than 50 centimeters. And in lure fishing, it’s especially exciting for the fisherman to catch flounder and flathead (the main targets of lure fishing) that have over 50 centimeters because they put up a really good fight.
This year is Polyplastics’ 50th anniversary, so I’d like to say that I’m hoping to catch 50 black sea bream this year. But with black sea bream, size is more important than number, so let me say that I’m hoping to catch an even bigger one than I ever have before. The photo is of a 53-centimeter black sea bream (left) and a flathead of over 60 centimeter (right) that I caught last year. Black sea bream and flathead are delicious eaten raw, and the bony parts of flathead make a scrumptious fish broth.

My mother was born in 1950

By Michiyo Kodama

I’m Michiyo Kodama and I work in the Human Resources Department. I’d like to tell you about my mother.
My mother was born in 1950. She’s 61 years old now, but you’d never guess she was over 60 from the youthful way she talks and acts. Our relationship is more like that of two friends than mother and daughter. Until about ten years ago, she worked in a travel agency. She loves to travel; before she was married she went to Okinawa every summer to snorkel dive and to ski resorts in the mountains every winter to ski.

And counting both the tours arranged by the travel agency that she had accompanied and private trips she had taken, my mother had been to almost all of the major tourist destinations in the world. When I was a child, she used to take me along once in a while. Whether at work or at home, she was always smiling and looked like she was really enjoying life to the full. Now that I think about it, she is certainly a person who is deserving of respect.

My life as a member of adult society has just begun; just like my mother, I want to make the most of both my work and private lives.

In Celebration of My 50th Birthday

By Hirozumi Shimomura

I was born in 1960 and turned 50 two years ago in 2010.
I wanted to do something memorable to celebrate this milestone 50th birthday, so I made up my mind to fulfill a dream I’ve had since my youth—getting a motorcycle license!
I started by getting a license to drive a medium-sized motorcycle. Then while I was still 50, I got a license to drive a large-sized motorcycle.
I’m embarrassed to report that I failed the driving school’s graduation test once for the medium-sized motorcycle license and twice for the large-sized motorcycle license before finally passing the tests.
During the test, I was required to slowly drive for more than 8 seconds down a narrow road called "Ipponbashi" that was 10 meters long and only about 30 centimeters wide. I fell off the motorcycle at one point; I guess it must have been because my sense of balance still wasn’t up to par.

In the highest point of national roads in Japan ( 2,172 meters )

Now I drive all over the place on my 1300cc motorcycle with no trouble—I’ve become something of an old “bad boy.” That’s just a joke, of course. But seriously, getting a motorcycle license has given me the opportunity to make a lot of new friends. Also, what I do for enjoyment on my days off has changed.
It’s truly exhilarating to race along under brilliant blue skies, surrounded by the beauty of nature and feeling the rush of the wind.

Malaysian New 50 Cents Coin [PAP]

The third series of cent coins were announced on 25 July 2011, first being issued as commemorative coins to mark their release in early 2012. The third series carry a theme named "Distinctively Malaysia" and are inspired from motifs of flora and fauna drawn from various cultures in Malaysia to "reflect the diversity and richness of Malaysia's national identity". The denominations issued are 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents. On 24 October 2011, Deputy Finance Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Donald Lim named Poogsan Corporation of South Korea as the series' coin suppliers and the coins are minted at the Bank Negara Mint in Shah Alam, Malaysia.

The costs in producing the coins will be reduced by 49% due to the change in metal composition. Other changes in the series include the diameter, the color on 20 and 50 cents from silver to yellow and a redesign on the obverse featuring different motifs for each denomination, fourteen dots symbolizing the thirteen states and the collective Federal Territories, and five horizontal lines indicating the five principles of Rukunegara.

"BANK NEGARA MALAYSIA" lettering. The obverse does not feature the five horizontal lines, but instead a latent image security feature is placed over the coin, where lettering of the denomination "50" and "CENT" can be seen when the coin is tilted slightly.

My collegue is 50 years old. [PAPS, PMI]
My colleague, Mr. Toh Choon Huat is just over 50 years old. He joined Polyplastics during the era when the representative office was still in Singapore. He is one of the first few overseas employees of Polyplastics. He has been working in the Sales & Marketing department for 18 years. His main customers are connector manufacturers in Singapore. His most exciting experience working in Polyplastics is to participate in the business growth in Asia.
He is a father of two children and he enjoys traveling abroad with his family during his holiday.
I’m glad to work with him and hoping to continue learning a lot from him.

Hong Kong City Hall — Famous 50 Years Old [PCL]
City Hall 2012

Hong Kong City Hall, a landmark located in the heart of the Central district, has been opened to the public since 1962. In the past half a century, this City Hall has stored tremendous collective memories of Hong Kong people.

City Hall is located in the commercial area called “Central”, and used to be surrounded by numerous famous historic landmarks, such as Queen's Pier, Star Ferry, etc.. But all these were either demolished or moved due to the new city development projects. City Hall is the only survivor!

Within this British engineer designed City Hall, it has a library, marriage registry, some world class concert halls, small function rooms, and awarded restaurants, etc.. It was one of the most important romping grounds of the locals. In these past five decades, it has collected the growing footsteps of many Hong Kong people. It also witnessed and heard many love birds’ votes.

The Wedding, old photo

In the past, there was only one marriage registry and it is inside the City Hall. Therefore, the staircases in front of the City Hall became the only iconic spot for taking pictures with friends and relatives after the votes of the newly wedded couples. Although the number of the marriage registry in Hong Kong has been increased these days, City Hall still reminds to be the favorite iconic scene of many locals. As a matter of face, my parents also got married and registered in this City Hall in 1967.
50 years ago, when Hong Kong was not as abundant as it is now, riding a trip to the Central was kind of luxury family activity. However, if you ask for any Hong Kong locals for their family albums, I am sure you would be able to find some family or friends shots taken place there.

City Hall, old photo

The performance halls inside City Hall are said to be equipped with the world class level of facilities. Many great musicians, artists of the world came to City Hall for performances. City Hall does not only bring in world class performers, it also provides ideal romantic dating scenes for many. Many choose it as their first dating location, and eventually choose it as their marriage registry for their life time votes.

The rapid community development has shamelessly torn down many great buildings; it has mutually excluded our nostalgias memories. City modernization projects such as constructions of highways, building air-blocking skyscrapers etc. have suffocated city dwellers. Finding ways to preserve the beautiful collective memories of us, and have it go on for another 50 years would be our wishes!

The 50-Percent Theory of Life [PTSL,PSL]

Recently, the 50-Percent Theory of Life has become the focus of the society. Now people in growing numbers are beginning to realize the importance of the 50-percent theory. Somebody said that he believes the 50-percent theory. Half the time things are better than normal; the other half, they are worse. He believes life is a pendulum swing. It takes time and experience to understand what normal is, and that gives him the perspective to deal with the surprises of the future. Thus, some people are in favor of the theory of the 50-percent.

But others may not agree. These who dislike the theory have their reasons too. Firstly, they don’t have a goal. A lot of time they find ourselves “spinning our wheels”, struggling through a day-to-day routine that isn’t getting them anywhere because they don’t know where they want to go. Secondly, they are in fear of failure, if the result has fallen below the 50-percent expectation, and they probably will lose in the future. Therefore, they don’t believe the 50-percent theory in their life.

Who’s right? I think both of them have something right. In practice, all succeeding good things merely offset the bad. Worse than normal wouldn't last long. We should believe that God closes one door while opening another one for you. From what has been discussed above, we may safely draw the conclusion that no matter how hard it is, just keep going because you only fail when you give up.

The history of RMB50 Yuan [PSL Branch : Shenzhen]

At present, China people use the fifth generation of RMB which contains face value of RMB100, RMB50, RMB20, RMB10, RMB5, RMB2, RMB1.
Different face value of RMB with different pattern has different meaning and history. For example, RMB50 has one side of the Potala Palace and another side of Chairman Mao. The Potala Palace was built up in the early seventh century.

The story of the Potala Palace is below:

The king of Tibet celebrated the princess of the Tang Dynasty Wencheng who married into Tibet, the king built up the Potala Palace which locates on HongShan of Lhasa in China with more than 3700 meters elevation. The Potala Palace is a palace which has 999 tenements covers 410,000 square meters with the construction area of 130,000 square meters. It has 13 storeys with 115 meters height. It has gold and copper for its rooftops of 5 palaces, and stone-wood complex situated. Under the sun, it looks golden, bright and magnificent.  "50 years old", I knew the decrees of Heaven [PTW]

1. "50 years old", I knew the decrees of Heaven

Of 138 employees in Dafa plant, there are 10 celebrating their 50-year-old birthday this year. Fifty is a big year for Chinese people as the said to know the decrees of Heaven, or know objective laws based on Confucian Analects. Usually people over the age of 50 are easy to feel tired. But from the picture taken six of 10 colleagues, do they look like 50? They just say to take good care of body health and establish anti-aging preparations as make healthy prepared. They really enjoy the golden age now!

2. 5 Persons, “50 fingers”, make up a mutual trust and cooperative team.

While stretching out one hand, we can see five fingers with fatter thumb, longer middle finger, shorter little finger, etc. Five members of Material Management Section are just like fingers, having different working responsibilities but the same mind to work together well. Here is the best teamwork!

3. “Grand 50 Tower” – 50 storey mansion

Grand 50 Tower, the 50-storey high structure, is currently the second tallest building in Kaohsiung. The usage of building combines with multi-function of commercial office, meeting room, art exhibition and restaurant. The company has been holding various training courses in the meeting room of Grand 50 Tower. There, we absorbed new knowledge, set up common consensus, and spent wonderful learning time with other colleagues.

4. “50 tea cups”

Production 1 Department is a big department in PTW, having the head count of 46. CCR restroom is the place not only for operators of Production 1 Department to take a break after busy working tempo, but also the place for colleagues can have some small talk, tittle-tattle and gossip...just to know what happens around us. While chatting, we enjoy aroma of hot Oolong tea with our own various and unique tea cups.  After counting tea cups storing at the CCR restroom, we’re amazed that there are 50 cups being full of individual taste. There, we can find the cup of Mr. S.C. Yeh, our Chairman since he often shares his ideas or the company’s conduct with grassroots labor. Of course, talking too much must be thirsty. Enjoy tea!

5. “50 Lan”- beverage culture in Taiwan

Cool beverage is well-liked by many people in Taiwan. Many beverage chain stores have flourished everywhere. “50 Lan” is one brand of popular chain stores. There are many variants of the drink, depending on the types of tea used and ingredients added. Aside from the prevailing tea drinks, we can find other beverage taken to the use of different fruits and other plant-based ingredients. The most popular kind is Pearl milk tea (bubble tea), a popular tea drink available in many parts of the world now. “50 Lan”, the tea shop, enriches the pleasure of drinking, especially in summer hot days.

 2 stories regarding no.50 [PMT]

Possibility with number 50:50

by Jakkrit Lerksomboonsiri

It can be said that people are familiar with the number 50. It is very interesting if you know how it is related to our life as people variously adapt and apply the number 50 to their communication. Most people often use the word 50/50 when referring to the two things that equally have the chance of happening. The expression can be either positive or negative like when the doctor say your friend have the 50:50 chance of recovery, you would be sad to hear that. It was recently that I had chance to watch the good movie named 50/50 which is about the man who can overcome a rare cancer, and ends with happiness. Moreover, American people say 50 to a date that the other does not show up. However, people also say 50/50 to motivate each other when they have to face with something that might be unsuccessful because at least they still have a chance to do it. Hearing a doctor says you are 50% effaced can be implied to women who might almost give birth. However, at the end of the meal, the meaning of 50/50 can refer to share the bill equally. In the US, 50 can be implied to police because of the TV show (Hawaii Five-O). In addition, turning 50 can be referred to the milestone in people life as it is the time of beginning a true self. For a couple, 50th year is a golden anniversary. Finally, in this year, the number 50 shows how long Polyplastics has been a part of society since its foundation, so let’s celebrate together!!!

Room no. 5050 when flooding evacuation

by Nitchra Boonsongsup

For about my story of no. 50, I was really in love with this number especially during my flooding evacuation at the end of last year. During my flooding evacuation, I had to evacuate to many places (ie. Kanjanaburi Province, Rama II, etc.), including moving to Nana Apartment which was the place that company provided to employee facing flooding situation.
At Nana Apartment, my room number was 5050^^. During staying at this room 5050, I felt very happy and comfortable because its location was very very near to the office and It was also the vital thing so that meant  “I had no need to evacuate and moved any more”\(T0T)/.
Flooding refugee is very very bored and also feels extremely tired to evacuate to many places without knowing when it’s able to go home (Y0Y).

Baby to celebrate Polyplastics 50th anniversary [PTM]

I’ll have a baby to celebrate Polyplastics 50th anniversary

Hi, I’m Ping LIU from HR&ADM dept.
I’ll be a mother in this July. I feel so excited and enjoy my pregnancy which also brings great excitement to my family. All of us are figuring what the baby like. My mother and I begin to prepare cute clothes for it.  My father and my husband cook delicious and nutritious food for me to ensure my energy. Even after 9 months’ hard plan for it and facing physical discomfort of everyday, I feel it still worthy. This baby will not only be a gift to me, but also be a gift to Polyplastics-Family as an anniversary baby.

I plan to read 50 books in 2012

Hi, I’m Yuting JIANG from Purchase & Logistic Dept. I like to read all kinds of books. For example, spiritual books, children education books, philosophy books, English study books, computer skill books…etc.

Reading allows me to find the distance.
Reading opens my heart and mind.
Reading gives me mental satisfaction.
Reading gives me strength.
Reading allows me to develop a working relationship.

When I feel lonely, when I feel sad, when I want to cry, when I meet setbacks, I always find a book to read. Maybe, I don’t really want to read it at the beginning. But when I find that there are many interesting stories and philosophies in the book, I think I don’t feel unhappy anymore. Books give me comforts; they often tell me “Tomorrow, everything will be fine.”  “Don’t be afraid.” “You can do it.”
I read, I happy!
I am grateful for all these good books.

50 Months in PTM

Hi, I’m Chunyan QU from Purchase & Logistic Dept. Since I entered PTM, about 50 months have passed. During this period, I met many warm-hearted colleagues. I learned a lot and enjoyed a lot here. It's a nice memory for me of these 50 months. And I firmly believe that the next 50 months would be more wonderful for our company and for me.

50% liquid level, 100% goal

Hi, I’m Ning XUE from Monomer section.
In monomer, we keep the liquid level of rectifying tower at around 50 percent. The liquid level of receiver at 50 percent will have wide operation flexibility for the fluctuation of system. The 50 percent of stable liquid level ensures product quality as well.
So the 50 percent means a stable system to some extent, and the energy consumption can be kept as low as possible on a stable system. The stable system is one of necessary conditions of production target. Through our collective efforts, we will attain our goals at last.

I Plan to Collect 50 Model Cars

Hello. I’m Tiantian DING from Polymer section. You can't have the whole world, but you can buy a globe. I can't afford to buy expensive cars, but I can be satisfied with collecting model cars.
Model car is a work of art in itself, with its unique charm and aesthetic value. Favorite model car is not only to cultivate temperament and to increase knowledge but also a very good investment.
Collecting favorite model cars is just like collecting stamps and has risen to an act of culture and art.
Model car is a work of art, just like a giant key. It has a rich and varied collection of areas opened the door for people!
So far I collected 33 cars. And I plan to achieve 50 by 2012. Welcome to join me, I’m very glad to share with you the collection of fun!

I plan to watch 50 movies this year

Hello, I’m Su CHEN from Engineering & Maintenance Dept.
I like going to cinema when I feel lonely, sad or happy. In the theatre, after the environment to be dark people suddenly become so quiet. And all anxiety fading, they watch the screen and enjoy the story of the film.
Of course, watching movie without popcorn is so dejection. I like to eat popcorn when I watch a movie. The movie is not just to resolve your loneliness or boredom. We only have one life and play the role of only one forever. The role is you!
But you can imagine yourself as a role of the film when you watch the movie! That can make you feel a different living experience! Such as is often said that life is like drama, drama is life! I like to watch movies, I hope you like too.
I'm going to watch 50 movies this year! To enrich my life!

Mother’s 50th Birthday

Hi, I’m Yiqian WANG from HR&ADM Dept.
Nov. 25th of 2011 is my mother’s birthday——50 years old birthday. At that day, we invited some relatives and friends to my home and had a happy dinner together.
Looking back the past 26 years, I still remember. When I was a child, mother taught me to use chopsticks, ride a bicycle and sing children’s songs as well as the right behaviors. She is a kind, severe and lovely woman in my mind. As I was growing up, we had been able to talk everything freely like sisters. Sometimes we also argued about trivial matters, but it made us closer.
Now my mother is 50 years old, I wish she and father have a good health——that’s the best birthday gift for them.
