A Toxic Disaster Drill in PTW

A toxic disaster drill named "Forever Safe No. 31" was held at PTW on the September 25 2008. This drill was hosted by the Kaohsiung County Government, and involved the participation of all related governmental departments including Environment Protection Bureau, Fire Bureau, Police Bureau, and Health Bureau.

This drill was featured a scenario in which a fire at formaldehyde tank erupted following an air attack. In this simulation, the tank exploded and caught fire. This disaster resulted in a lot of toxic smoke and gas. Several PTW workers affected by the toxic smoke and gas began to feel dizzy, nauseous and had skin inflammation.

As soon as the disaster occurred, PTW immediately started the emergency response procedure, and reported to the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) of the Kaohsiung County Government. The EOC commanded all related departments to implement their disaster assistance procedures as to take necessary actions swiftly.

When an emergency or disaster occurs, companies and numerous agencies at the local and county levels must carry out many different functions swiftly and effectively to protect life, property, environment, and economy in a concerted effort to restore normalcy. The purpose of the drill is to maximize coordination and application of resources between all related companies and government departments. The September-25 drill successfully came to an end.
