Training in PTW for PAP Staff /

Topics PTW Vol.72

The Polyplastics group has been emphasizing the exchange of each other's advantages and the optimization of resource management by technical training and communication. Therefore, PAP dispatched two staff members who handle maintenance works of the POL/FIN zone in MP1: a foreman named Mr. Musfani and a mechanical engineer named Mr. Firdaus who came to PTW for learning and gaining PTW experience and knowledge that can be applied in PAP with target for cost reduction and improve maintenance activity.

To improve technical communication and reduce PAP maintenance costs, the training consisted of PTW's repairs, prevention maintenance, shutdown procedures, contractor management, and introduction of cost reduction items. By comparing and contrasting PTW's methodologies with PAP's, greater technical understanding can be achieved. The benefits of the training by sharing each other's experiences include:
1. Learning and communicating maintenance skills and inspection methods
2. Decreasing costs by using local manufacturers instead of OEM
3. Increasing flexibility with contractor management to reduce manpower costs
4. Decreasing spare part stockpiles to optimize spare part management

At the end of the training, PAP's Mr. Firdaus provided feedback on his training experiences with us. Mr. Firdaus said, “The biggest problem was difficult to communicate with foremen, technician or contractor, but other members always helped to translate during training in PTW." Mr. Firdaus also said that the most important parts of the training included learning and gaining experience in how to carry out and manage daily and shutdown maintenance in addition to reducing maintenance costs efficiently. About the training and life at PTW, Mr. Firdaus said “I have learned a lot of things from PTW members, and all PTW members and contracted workers are very friendly; I didn't feel isolated during the training period. I have been in Taiwan for 1 month; there was no difficulty and no big trouble for me even though it's quite hard to find halal food, but it's still not a burden to me."

It is apparent that PAP's Mr. Firdaus found the training to be helpful, and he adapted to the new environment well. We are honored to have had this opportunity to share technical experience that multiple parties found beneficial. We believe that such technical training and communication will continue to enhance operations in future.
