Fabulous French Toast. /

COLUMN PPC Vol.71

Do you eat “French Toast” in your country? My favorite breakfast is called “French Toast” in Japan. This is way of cooking bread, and is very easy to cook. Dip a slice of white bread in a mixture of beaten egg, milk and sugar, and just cook in a pan with butter. That’s all!

When I was a child, French Toast was something gorgeous which I could eat only in the week-end morning, but now, it becomes something I never fail to cook and still delicious enough for me.

According to the internet, there are many different episodes where French Toast comes from. But in a Japanese movie in 1960s, man eats bread just dipping it in a mixture of beaten egg and milk (without cooking). It is said that, because of this film, French Toast and its taste become very popular, among people.

By the way, my favorite French Toast is served in a small coffee shop named “La Pullman Café” in my hometown. We can enjoy its proper sweetness and fluffiness, and it melts in our mouth…so tasty! It makes me just happy. Although I can’t reproduce this elegant taste by myself, I like to make it, too. Its taste is ordinary, but familiar. It reminds me of the memory of French Toast in my childhood.
