Mt. Fuji Natural Forest Restoration Project /

Topics PPC Vol.69

On April 29, six persons from Polyplastics participated in the Mt. Fuji Natural Forest Restoration Project, which is undertaken as a voluntary activity.
The project, organized by Fuji City where the company’s Fuji Plant is located, was begun in 1994. This year marks its 22nd year.

The natural forests of Mt. Fuji absorb rainwater to provide a constant source of water for rivers and also play a valuable role in regulating river flow. Local residents and the city administration join together to carry out the forest restoration project, which consists of planting beech and other broadleaf trees for the purpose of restoring a favorable natural environment at the foot of Mt. Fuji. This year some 500 participants planted a total of about 200 beech, zelkova, and other types of trees.

In addition to planting tree seedlings, participants also enjoyed a mini concert, which is held each year. This year participants were treated to an ocarina performance. It was a day for enjoying the beauty of music and nature in the vicinity of Mt. Fuji that refreshed everyone who participated.

Beech trees planted in 1994 have already grown to a height of over 6 meters. In the years ahead, Polyplastics intends to be an active participant in this project to protect nature around Mt. Fuji.
