The Daicel kaizen Case Study Meeting
In past issues, P-mates has run many articles on the topic of kaizen activities. The Daicel Group—the nucleus for kaizen activities undertaken by the Polyplastics Group—held a Kaizen Case Study Meeting on April 9.

The case study meeting is an event held at various plant and research facility sites in the Daicel Group. Last year, the meeting was held at Polyplastics’ Fuji Plant. This meeting, the fifth, was held at Daicel’s Arai Plant in Niigata Prefecture in the Tohoku region. Employees from 8 plant sites in the Daicel Group including the Polyplastics plant participated in the meeting. The team from the General Administration Department of Fuji plant that won first prize in the Polyplastics Group Kaizen Convention held last year in February gave their winning presentation titled “Report of industrial waste reduction activity and promotion of the used paper bag recycling in Fuji Plant,” in which they told how the department is proactively undertaking kaizen activities.

Kaizen themes presented by teams from other plants and research facilities included thorough practice of safety measures, 3S promotion, and measures to eliminate unreasonableness and waste. Participants all shared great enthusiasm for kaizen activities, and the meeting was a valuable opportunity for them to learn from each other’s experiences.

PPC Kaizen Case Study Meeting in Tokyo
At PPC, kaizen case study meeting was held in Tokyo head office with members from Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya. Presentations were given on 5 themes including work efficiency, business card management, and document storage. Kaizen activities are being promoted in the management sector as well.

The presenters and the audience at this year’s case study meeting all went back to their respective worksites with new knowledge and subjects for consideration, and it is expected that these will be developed and implemented throughout the companies.
