“Pathumthani” is the province where ASEAN TSC is located. “Pathum” means Lotus and “Thani” means City and we can conclude that “Pathumthani” means “City of Lotus”. In the past, there were many canals and lotus found everywhere and “Pathumthani” becomes the name of the city.
Lotus is the local plant of Asia which are usually found in China, India and Thailand. The flowers have underground stems, stalks and leaves above the soft flow of water. The leaves will emerge from the water and stems have thorns. The flowers are large, single flowers held high from the water which show the not blooming and blossoming. The petals are both stacked and piled in white, pink or yellow, depending on the species.
We call Lotus “Bua” in Thai. We usually use “Bua” in religious ceremonies while root and seeds can be used as food ,moreover, we also plant “Bua” for decorating house or garden. Thai people believe that “Bua” should be planted on Wednesday. So the lotus are planted on Wednesday to make lotus flowers blooming beautifully around the pool.
