The national flower of South Korea, Gangnam District /

COLUMN PKL Vol.69

Hibiscus syriacus (also called the Rose of Sharon) is the flower that symbolizes South Korea.

The flowers may be white, purple, red, or yellow, and bushes bloom from July to October.

In the Korean language Hibiscus syriacus is called Mugunghwa. This flower has been loved from times of old in our country because it blooms for such a long time. Have you ever seen this flower in your country?

Now that I’ve written about our national flower, I’ll make a small change of direction to bring you my report for this issue. The PKL office is located in Gangnam District. “Gangnam Style” is the title of a song that was popular around the world, so you have probably heard it at least once.

The Gangnam District has a business district, but there is also a shopping district where lots of young people gather, so Gangnam is always filled with crowds of people. That’s why I thought this flower that blooms in various colors seems to express the variety to be found in the Gangnam District, which is why I choose to introduce it this time. I choose it because all sorts of people gather and mingle here. By the way, I made this hand-tied bouquet myself. Isn’t it pretty?!
