Because of the believing that small children will often have health problem and obstinate, boys have “ Phom Jook” (shaving children’s head and remain the hair in the middle of head for bun ) and the girls have “ Pia” (pigtail). By having this, it is thought they have good health and become a good person. But when they grow up they need to cut it off at the suitable age which is 7 years old, 9 years old or 11 years old.

This old tradition has inherited to present. When the children are at that age, parent will arrange an event by selecting good date and time for “Kon Phom Jook” (Cut the hair off) and provide food to make a merit and entertain guests.

On the first day, there is an evening ceremony with children dressed up by Thai dress at their relatives house then arrange the parade with instruments. When the children arrive home, they need to attend the prayer by monk for their fortune. Next, perform ceremony for encouragement and children change the clothes to casual dress for the party held after that.

On the second day, let the children take a shower then attend the monk prayer and make a merit with parents, relatives and neighbors. After that, monk will cut the hair off followed by parents, grandparents and relatives and children will receive money from parents, grandparent and relatives for their morale.
