Respect the Spirit House on ATSC Grand Opening day /

Topics PMT Vol.64

A spirit house or San Phra Phum in Thai is a shrine to the protective spirit of a place that are found in the Southeast Asian countries of Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand. Most houses and businesses have a spirit house placed in an auspicious spot, most often in a corner of the property. The location may be chosen after consultation with a Brahmin priest. The spirit house is normally in the form of a miniature house or temple, and is mounted on a pillar or on a dais.

The house is intended to provide a shelter for spirits which could cause problems for the people if not appeased. The shrines often include images of people and animals. Votive offerings are left at the house to propitiate the spirits. More elaborate installations include an altar for this purpose.

On ATSC Grand Opening day we also respect spirit house because we believe that it is a good day to start work and the respecting sprit house will bring us fortune in work and life. For the respect ceremony we have to provide Puang Malai (flower), candle, incense and 9 kinds of fresh fruits which red or gold color to worship such as banana, orange, pumpkins apple, Chinese pear pineapple etc. or the other way we can worship by 9 kind of food. The respecting time was started at 8.09 a.m. before the ceremony by ATSC, PMT and PPC members who join on that day.

We hope that the respecting sprit house on this day will bring us full of joy and fortune for our work and life forever.
