The rare stamp in China /

COLUMN PTM Vol.64

If you are a fan of stamp collecting, you definitely know the first set of Chinese stamp which is called “Great Dragon.” In 1878, Qing dynasty set up post office which belonged to Customs in Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Yantai and Niuzhuang. There were total 3 pieces of stamps, and dragon was printed on them. It has more than 130 years of history and is so rare in the market, so it is a day dream to own one Great Dragon for stamp fans.

But to own a Monkey stamp may not be only a day dream. It was issued in 1980, and it’s very popular to fans. It was the first zodiac stamp in China with beautiful images and fine printings. So the price has been raised a lot. At the issuing, it cost only 8 jiao, but now the price is 12,000 yuan. What a surprising markup speed!

Finally I’d like to introduce a stamp with Nantong scenic. In 2005, one set with 2 pieces of Nantong Museum was issued. One hundred years ago, the famous Nantong businessman Mr. Jian Zhang set up Nantong Museum. The issue of the stamp is to celebrate its 100th birthday, also to illustrate the historical status and cultural values of the museum in China.
