Publication of Polyplastics Group CSR Report 2011

The Polyplastics Group Environmental and CSR Report 2011 was recently published in July 2011. As we already announced on the Polyplastics Gr. Bulletin Board on July 28, the Chinese and English language editions of the report can be read on the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) section of our corporate website.

First, we would like to talk about what CSR means, and use this opportunity to help our employees gain a shared understanding of CSR.

Stakeholders are unique in their respective expectations and demands for corporations. Corporations endeavor to suitably address these needs through the pursuit of CSR activities.

For example:

  • Society seeks the development of a sustainable society, and corporations respond to this expectation by reducing their environmental impact and securing compliance.
  • Customers and consumers seek greater customer satisfaction, and corporations respond to this expectation by supplying products and services that are safe and of high quality.
  • Employees seek greater employee satisfaction, and corporations respond to this expectation by providing places to work and endeavoring to provide safe and comfortable working conditions.

The relationship between the Corporate Philosophy and the Conduct Policy
The Polyplastics Group CSR Report 2011 visually explains the relationship between our corporate philosophy and conduct policy, focusing on the values that we embrace through the “Polyplastics-Way” and “Polyplastics-Family”.
The report summarizes the CSR activities that we pursue under our Corporate Philosophy. The detailed content of the report was collected through information that was obtained through the cooperation of our members of Group Companies. CSR activities have been categorized into environmental, safety and health/hygiene activities and social activities that we pursue at every stage from raw materials procurement and R&D to manufacturing and delivery to customers.

The report is also designed to help our employees as key stakeholders to share an appreciation of how their day-to-day activities are meeting environmental and social responsibilities through the pursuit of CSR activities.

[Joint development guided by "Polyplastics-Way"]

Hon Hai Precision Industry Company Ltd. manufactures devices such as smartphones, digital music players and tablet computers. Polyplastics has been supplying key products to Hon Hai for some 20 years, and is a key supplier of VECTRA® in addition to developing new product grades to address development hurdles that Hon Hai faces for new products. In February 2011, Hon Hai awarded Polyplastics with a Strategic Business Partner Award in recognition of our engineering and development contributions. The relationship with Hon Hai illustrates how Polyplastics is able to successfully propose solutions and market them based on the values embodied in the “Polyplastics-Way” provided in Corporate Philosophy —by standing closest to our customers and understanding their needs by knowing them from the inside out. The Polyplastics Group CSR Report 2011 contains an interview with Mr. Kelvin Twu, a director and officer responsible for material procurement for Hon Hai’s Shenzhen plant. There is also commentary from Mr. Albert X. Qian, Senior Technical and Development Manager in charge of the Hon Hai account at Polyplastics China Ltd.

As a strategic business partner, Polyplastics is a member of in the highest rank. Polyplastics is not merely a supplier; we have a relationship that was built based on a history of joint material development and technical exchange. In acknowledgement of this relationship, we presented Polyplastics with the Strategic Business Partner Award in February 2011.
This recognition had much to do with Polyplastics' strong position as a leader both in material development and technology with high market share for materials and remarkable technical support capabilities.

I joined Polyplastics China Ltd. in 1995. I have been in charge of the Hon Hai account for seven years. As Mr. Twu mentioned, Hon Hai has a number of top global manufacturers as its client. Accordingly, it demands a high level of service from us in our capacity as material manufacturers. Its needs vary by project and include the proposal of materials, provision of data and test materials and introduction of new technologies.
The most important thing as the sales representative handling Hon Hai is to promptly meet its needs. Polyplastics' Corporate Philosophy is: "We always stand closest to our customers. We understand customers' needs by knowing our customers from the inside out." With this in mind, we make across-the-board efforts to meet all the needs of customers, including Hon Hai.

[Your Social Activities]
The Polyplastics Group CSR Report 2011 describes social activities pursued throughout the Polyplastics Group during the year. Some of these activities have been covered in past issues of P-Mates, but some will be new to you. We hope that reading about the activities that are being pursued by your colleagues at other Group Companies will help to spur each other on to expand your social activities.

CSR activities are part of our day-to-day business activities, centering on our Corporate Philosophy. The Polyplastics Group Conduct Policy guides our conduct in pursuing CSR activities. Corporate Social Responsibility is integral to the daily conduct of our employees, from the standpoint of corporate citizenship. We hope that this has helped you gain an appreciation for CSR activities as something that is to be expected, and not something out of the ordinary.
Moving forward, we will endeavor to further enhance our compliance and encourage CSR, including by gauging how well our employees understand the concepts of CSR and compliance.
