Polyplastics ASEAN Technical Conference

On 28 May 2008, Polyplastics Asia Pacific Singapore Pte Ltd hosted the 1st ASEAN technical conference at Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel. Close to 90 visitors from various industries (including Office Automation manufacturers, E/E Components makers, automotive part suppliers, communication equipment suppliers, precision molders and traders) from the ASEAN region attended the presentations. Polyplastics took this opportunity to introduce the registration of membership in WEB@ TSC and the establishment of ASEAN Technical Solution Centre in Thailand.

In Mr. Kobayashi's presentation, he presented Polyplastics' R&D roadmap that addressed environmental concerns in the industry, high performance & high precision requirements, cost reduction and manufacturing process simplification. He then focused on the latest industry trends that call for greener material and the full spectrum of Polyplastics's material from Duracon® - Low Volatile Compound series, Duranex®-Halogen free series, Fortron® - Low Chlorine content series and Vectra ® that meet the requirements.

In Mr. Kawai's presentation on automotive applications, he highlighted that the trends in automotive industry calls for higher fuel economy, lower emissions and other environmental concerns, and Intelligent Transport System & Safety. Besides presenting on traditional metal replacement for weight reduction, interior and exterior applications of plastics components, he also showcased various engineering plastics applications that are used for safety components, engine management system components for improving fuel efficiency, fuel supply system components, cooling system components, sensors, electric connectors, ECU (Electric Computer Unit) housings, components for Electric Car or Hybrid Engine Vehicle, etc. His presentation demonstrates the use of engineering plastics applications in stringent requirements and under harsh service environments, stretching the stereotype of the limitations of plastics.

In Mr. Mochizuki's presentation, the workings of plastics components and gear trains that are involved in transporting paper in a printer were unveiled. He also shared Polyplastics' technical know-how in improving gear precision with our customers, which attracted some excited questions from the audience upon knowledge of POM acetal material being used in high precision gears despite its high shrinkage properties. Mr. Miwa from Thailand Technical Service Centre explained how Polyplastics can help in mold design, product design, selection of material and the molding process to achieve high precision gears.

In TOPAS® COC material presentation, Mr. Erami presented the Topas® COC material standard grade line-up as well as basic features of TOPAS® material necessary for the medical and diagnostics, optical and packaging industries. Applications profile of these market segments was also presented. During the half-an-hour TOPAS® presentation, much enthusiasm was received from the participants particularly on outdoor resistance of TOPAS® as well as chemical stress cracking of this material.

At the end of conference, customers were invited for buffet dinner where they shared their experience and engaged in discussions with speakers & the Polyplastics' staff. We have received warm response and positive feedback about our technical conference.
