A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
We are still basking in the afterglow of the excitement
of the 2004 Athens Olympics, but athletes themselves
are probably already starting preparations for the
2008 Beijing Olympics
Numerous sporting events are held in Japan in the year-end
and New Year, fascinating many fans. Professional wrestling,
soccer, rugby football, American football, the list
goes on.
Among them, what fascinates most fans to in front of
the television is the "Hakone EKIDEN (relay marathon)",
in which teams compete by relaying a sash over a 200-km
return route between Tokyo and Hakone. (Hakone is located
at the foot of Mount Fuji.) The television broadcasts
the sports event live for totals eight hours over two
days, and many viewers are impressed with what they
see. Many also make oath that, "This year I too
will start to exercise for my health."
I myself have made that very same "Oath" year
after year but I have never actually achieved it in
the past. In 2005, I will try and realize this "Oath" concretely
for achievement.
"Here I go! I will take part in the New York City
Marathon and finish the race!!"
I'll report back on the results of this "Oath" in
the 2006 New Year Issue of P-Mates.
