The latest activity of Welfare Committee
was the Firewood Mountain Hiking. The so-named mountain, in fact, is only a small
hill with 300 meters in height, located to the westward of Kaohsiung but retains
considerable forests, animals, insects, birds and topographic landscape. Hence,
this activity attracted the young and the old to jointly enjoy this small treasure
mountain.
On the a little chilly day of Dec 13, everybody got up early
to join the hiking activity. We started an about 30-minute hike to the top of
hill at 09:00 of the morning. Shaded pathways lead us into the world with a number
of quaint animals and plants hidden amidst the forests. Here deserve to be mentioned
is Taiwanese rhesus monkeys. Unlike wild animals, the rhesus monkeys in Firewood
Mountain are very closer to people.

Sometimes they would sit next
to the tourists and ask for food. So, image the scene of "Dance with Wolf" (a
famous movie) changing as "Hike with monkey"!
Before noon, everybody easily
and leisurely reached the pavilion, the top-mark of Firewood. There we hold a
prize drawing really lighting up the climax of hiking. The persons hitting the
prizes could not hide their heartily joy, honestly displayed from the shot pictures.
The view of Kaohsiung city and Taiwan Strait from the top of Firewood is another
special treat. Resting at the pavilion, we enjoyed gentle breeze bringing seawater
taste and looked far the view of multi-story buildings. Posture ready and smile
with saying "cheese" before camera! We took this get-together picture keeping
the happy ending of Firewood Mountain Hiking. |
