Together a new Singapore

Singapore celebrates its 38th National Day in a show of colour and fireworks this year. Held at the National Stadium on 9th August, National Day Parade (NDP) 2003 was an important rallying and uplifting event for Singaporeans amidst the current uncertain economic and securities situation. About 60,000 people came to the nation party dressed in red and everyone was geared up for the parade. This year's parade was different from the previous years; for one, both military and civilians participated directly in certain segments of the parade. Our healthcare workers and the troops from the Traffic Police, Civil Defence and SAF's Provost Unit also took centrestage at this year's parade with their fancy footwork and rifle display.
The parade comprised of 4 segments, "Pre-Parade segment", "Parade and Ceremonies", "Show" and "Post Parade". The Pre-Parade segment was aimed to warm-up the audience as well as to familiarise them on their participation in the subsequent Parade and Show Segments.
The Parade & Ceremony Segment was conceptualised around the theme of a "People's Parade" where the involvement of parade and spectators alike takes centre stage. It was a recognition that NDP is Singapore's birthday celebration involving all Singaporeans.
The Show segment comprised three Acts of "dramatic" mass displays leading to a grand finale. Finally there was the Post-parade party where all performers celebrated their hard work and participation with performances by popular local artistes and mass dancing on the field.
